Yep. I used to eat it, but I've grown to hate it. It's liver-ish.

You might want to take your pb smilie from your siggie, just until you can actually eat it again.

Ha ha - good point.

FYI - be sure and enter "some" type of sig - because the countdown requires that you have a sig so it has something to latch onto.

Good thing you got that extra minute of cardio on top of your 30.

And at first I misread that last word in your post. Or-gan-i-sa-tion makes much more sense though than what I initially saw. Carry on.

Chris...I am shocked....uhmmmm, no, not really.

I bought a bunch of tea. Going to pick up some Walden Farms chemicals...

Oh...I really need to learn to cook chicken without drying it out. So gross.

Good Luck! I am excited to follow along

Yes dried out chicken is gross. If you are like me, then you will finally make some of it right, where it really tastes good, then the next time you can't remember what you did and it turns out gross.

On the stovetop: Make sure that you aren't cranking up the heat. Cook on medium. You can also add something liquidity in the pan. It helps a lot. After it's cooked, you can crank the heat up to medium high so that you cook off all the liquid.

Just the flax oil.
Nope, I am officially pre-contest. I was at 3000 calories a day before.

Wow - i missed that first time around. What is the justification for zero fat in the diet?

And why flax, versus fish oil. As far as Omega 3's, EPA and DHA is what we want, and Flax Seed Oil, which is high in ALA has minimal conversion to EPA and none to DHA.

Thoughts?

Ask my coach? It's basically the diet she has followed and it works.
My previous diet was higher in fats, and it obviously did not work for me. Even after I pleaded with my coach to change something up (weight stayed the same for at least 8 weeks).

I don't know her, or I would.

Wow - yeah - weight staying flat for 8 weeks is not a good sign.

Anyway - I was just curious. I know what it's like to work with a coach - you have to go with someone you trust and then...trust them. So I'm not suggesting you go against her advice. Just thought she might have said "let's do an ultra low fat diet because I've found xyz benefits" or something.

I'd at least ask her if you can switch to fish oils - I think it brings more benefits than flax oil and certainly can't hurt anything. At least that's what the research I've read seems to indicate. And Lyle's rapid fatloss diet is basically a crash diet approach with "only protein and 10g EFA fats" - and he prefers fish oil as a source, versus flax.

Just some feedback/discussion.

One more comment: I also understand the risk that comes with posting your diet / approach in a journal... It invites questions and critiques, sometimes becoming a source of stress.

So I don't want my periodic questions to be that. I really enjoy learning about various approaches and am just being inquisitive - nothing more. I really do appreciate you (and others) being willing to post your preps here.

I was kinda surprised by the flax option myself, but since I trust her. I don't question. Well, I do ask questions...I just mean I don't question her methods. Plus I know if things are not going well, she won't dismiss it. I had that problem in the past with my ex-coach.

And I don't mind the questions.

People can critique all they want...proof wil be in the results, not the opinions.

Thats what I was thinking. Didn't know that some country's even sold that. Not sure if they do here in the U.S. So Elle what does horse meat taste like? And don't say tastes like chicken!
They do sell Bison and Ostrich meat here, just a few miles from where I live they have some farms that raise them both, and sold locally in the stores here.

Tastes like a cross b/n liver and beef. I used to eat it and quickly got sick of it. It's full of iron and B vitamins.

It was only liver-ish, so I could stand it for a bit....now the thought of it makes me gag.

I'll go ahead and admit it. The first time I saw it I went to my cube neighbor and was like "Did you know people eat horse?" I swear I didn't know that until you wrote about it. That's what I jokingly call Taco Bell meat. That or Grade F beef.

Weight = 168.5lbs
My jeans are no longer cutting off the circulation to my legs!

I'm feeling pretty darn good. Been sleeping like a baby too these days. Sleep will be a huge difference this year, and stress levels. Let's just say living with your ex during prep sux in a most major way.

Meeting up with a suit client tonight w/ my business partner...she's on the 'pants drop' list, so I'll get my pics taken.

Hahahaha...I can relate. I'm in that phase where only my biggest size of jeans fits me. That's when it's time to take your diet more seriously, eh?

Yeah - I can't imagine going through contest prep with someone that you may not always get along with.

Looking forward to some new pics!

Last year, I think I gained my first week, and then stalled for 8 weeks. NOT FUN!

Did I mention no cardio today!

I'm going to start tanning. Takes me forever to get any color.

Afraid to show them toes?

GREAT looking chest and upper body Elle (and I'm not just talking in the boobular sense either). And thick legs is definitely true. You are gonna be scary ripped after your cut. Thanks for sharing!!!

This is correct. Fish oil blows flax oil out of the water.

Elle, I have to ask - was your trainer "assisted" when she won?

FP, she is getting some fat in her foods, just not counting them (for instance, there's some trace amounts in the meats she is eating).

As a precautionary note though, once you start getting leaner and closer to stage time, if you start to stall, you might want to think about counting everything you're eating so you can better make adjustments.

My previous diet was higher in fats, and it obviously did not work for me. Even after I pleaded with my coach to change something up (weight stayed the same for at least 8 weeks).
Especially for a woman who is obviously not IR, I would never have advocated such an approach. You should have been on a low fat aproach anyway, which is why you probably didn't look the way you wanted to. Glad to see you are going to be using carbs this time around

My coach counts everything. She just gives me the list and I send her exactly what I eat. I'm kinda spoiled that way...

She was both 'not-assisted' and 'assisted'. Followed basically the same diet.

I'm glad I am using carbs too! I feel so much better, and I can feel the difference not even a week into the diet. I found it strange because he went the low fat approach my first prep, and even though I was smaller, I was better conditionned.

My last contest I think I was too low in carbs and too depleted and ended up with a sub-optimal final week. Ended up flat for a variety of reasons and couldn't hold a pump, as I've discussed before with Sporto.

So I'm really looking forward to this one. And I'm sure you are too. When you just KNOW you are doing things better than before, it just contributes to the excitement.

Dayum girl! From the way you were going on about your weight and all that crapola I didn't think you'd look so fit! You look STRONG. I can see definition in your legs, even at the weight you're at now. Holy cow. Just goes to show, you should totally think twice before downing yourself on your bad body image days.

What will your contest weight range be? I'm looking forward to new pics in a few weeks and watching you get shredded. You are going to blow everyone away at this contest!

That was my last show. No pump...I was PISSED. Then spillover galore. I looked a billion times better 2 days before.

You bet I am! I am nervous and relaxed at the same time.

135-138lbs

Well, you never know who is going to show up that day. There are a couple girls I know about, but there can always be someone unexpected pop up from nowhere. Hopefully, there will be more women bb'ers than usual since the Canadian Championchips are in Montreal in September. Top 3 in each weight class qualify.

Well. It's my first non-red wine and pizza night Friday. Meh.

Trying to find a routine song. Frustrating. Last 2 comps I knew right away. Now? I'm stuck. At least I have a while to decide.

You can try Pandora Radio and make a station out of both songs and see what plays. You will definitely get an idea if you want to continue along the same lines.

Ahh crud. I don't listen to this genre so I really can't make any suggestions off the top of my head.

I'm getting ideas!

Weight = 167.5lbs (-4.0lbs)
Normal for me. Debloat the first week of dieting.

I feel a bit better today. I think I may save my last cardio session of the week for tomorrow...I guess I'll just play it by ear.

LOL at the debloat. That's always nice.

I'm going to have to start thinking about my song. The challenge is - while many songs are good in their entirety, sometimes it's a challenge picking 60-90 seconds and still having it sound good.

Hiya! Always glad to see ya...I know you are super busy these days.

Pretty good Shoulder/Tricep day. What fatigued pretty quick b/c of my cold. Feeling better though!

Rear delt rope cable row: 5 sets, 6-8 reps
Seated DB lat raises: 5 sets, 8-10 reps
DB front raises SS Upright rope cable rows: 4 sets, 8-10 reps
Rope pressdowns: 5 sets, 6-8 reps
Reverse grip EZ bar pulldowns: 5 sets, 8-10 reps
1-arm pressdowns drops: 3 sets, 8-8-8

Yep....all cable tricep work today cuz I was lazy and too impatient to wait for the bozos to quit talking and get off the benches I needed.

Took an hour nap today. Very rare for me to do. Means that I really needed the sleep. I am just about ready to turn it. I'm beat!

Hey Kritter! And thx. I am hardly ever sick, so it's ultra-frustrating for me.

Weight = 167.0lbs

Going to report in to coach and see if any changes are on the horizon. I doubt it since things are moving so well.

That's what 95% of all bodybuilders say about their competitions - that they looked much better either a couple of days before or a couple of days after. And, it's usually because of all the dogmatic bs about cutting water, cutting sodium, potassium loading, etc...all of which make you look the same only flatter with no pump. Once you shed the fear of not doing all the dogmatic crap and see how much better it makes you look on show day, you'll never do those things again (then subsequently beat your head against the wall trying to convince people to do the same lol)

Best of luck Elle!

I don't know the last week has in store for, but I do know that there is no loading/cutting. If it is too risky, then why the hell flush all those weeks/months of hard freakin' work down the tubes? Won't happen this time around.

I've given up trying to convince most people of anything....they always seem to think that square peg will fit in the round hole. Then again, I still consider myself a newb, so I usually keep my mouth shut, watch, listen and learn.

Thx!

No weigh in this morning. Zombie....still sickish. Nagging cough kept me up since 4am. Funess.

100% rest day which means I get to catch up on laundry and other crap...like getting ready to move! Saturday I get my condo. Still hasn't really hit me....it's nuts.

I bailed 3/4 of the way through legs last night. Started getting dizzy. I went way heavy, so I didn't feel too bad about it.

I've been super dizzy the last three days. I was going to work out last night, but considering I couldn't stand up without falling over, I laid on the couch all night instead.

I think mine is allergies. All the trees are pollinating down here and I feel fine otherwise.

That is the year she took the overall at the Quebec Provicials. Her quads have always been cut, even off season. I'm so jealous!

The Gary Bartlett (who takes the photos at Quebec Provincials and is a total sweetheart...he delivred over 80 pics to me from my last show) article? Yeah, they don't know that she has retired yet. A lot of the girls are chomping at the bit to get her title. I think they will be disappointed that she won't be there.

Weight = 166.5lbs
Nothing much to report since it was rest day yesterday.

Thumbs up

Hi Elle,

Just dropping a note in your journal from a fellow Canadian - I was born in Mtl and lived there for 11 years: Lachine & Dorval. I saw your other threads and pics from your show last summer - looking great! Good luck with your contest prep for the Quebec Nationals on July 5th. (I am shooting for a show myself the following week on July 12th in TO!) I will be surfing into your journal and following your progress.

Hey! Thanks for stopping by!

I grew up in Beaconsfield, and lived in Dorval a few years ago. Small world!

Glad to have you along for the ride!

Weight = 166.5lbs

I am coughing like crazy this morning.

Workout was good last night. Getting my energy back! Getting used to the cardio. 40 minutes doesn't seem so long anymore. It may increase by another session if the weight doesn't drop a bit by Monday.

I haven't been posting my workouts because they will stay the same for the next 6 weeks. I changed them up a bit after that just to avoid the boredom factor.

I found I looked a little more cut last night even though my weight is stable.

Coughing sucks. Probably your lungs are just frozen from that canadian air.

glad the stall has been broken. I'm in a stall right now so I know it's not fun. Would more cardio help that? They guy who is making my diet said it would just make me more hungry.

I mean this in the most 'tough luvin' way when I say: sticking to the diet is the number one factor. I know it's tough because of your tummy issues, but more cardio may just worsen the stall if your calories are already quite low. Focus on de-stressing and eating according to the plan. Things will start moving...I am sure of it!

Long day today. Shopping, cardio, shopping, legs, go to condo, assemble furniture, start stoning another suit....can't complain that I have nothing to do can I?

Ohhhhh...nice tub. Mine's too small for a good soak, especially since I don't seem to be able to pull enough hot water to fill most of it.

Not weighing myself for a couple days to avoid any unecessary frustration. Like I need that at 18 weeks out.

Everything is going good. Training is on. Diet is on. What more can I ask for? Oh yeah, my appliances to be delivered so I can move into my tub, I mean my condo!

Forgot to set my alarm this morning...slept in an extra hour. I was wondereing why I felt so rested...and why it was so light out!

Haha...that is so me! I feel all screwed up today cuz I had to rush this morning. I hate breaking my routine, especially during pre-comp. That 30 minutes I take to have my coffee and protein pancake in the morning is 'me time'...keeps me sane!

That was me for sure this morning!

Nothing new to report! Workout and diet are on. Energy is getting back up to where it should be. No stims/fat burners at all....just a coffee here and there.

Wow - that sucks. 18 weeks out and 5 days of cardio. Just remember it will all be worth it under the bright lights. (Easy for me to say now - I'm not prepping yet. hehe)

Good thing is, coach will back off the cardio if things progress too fast.

Weight = 168.olbs

Down a pound and it wasn't s struggle to get my jeans on this morning.

I have to stop telling myself how much I hate cardio. Went by pretty quick last night. Visualized all my relaxed and mandatory poses in great detail.

Cardio is so mental, isn't it? If you get in the right frame of mind it can be pretty good, but the wrong mindset can make it really difficult.

The only cardio I can stand is SPIN class, or riding my mountain bike. Obviously the latter is way more fun.

SPIN class beats the crap outta me, it is definitely great for cardio.....once a week. No way I could do it more than two.

Totally. I have to stop thinking 'I am going to die of boredom' every time I am 5 minutes into my 40 minute session.

I feel 'beat up' this morning. It's my body telling me to sleep more. I have beeen getting 7 hours anight lately. Pretty good considering I used to only get 5-6.

How strange...that's exactly how I feel during a SPIN class.

BB bench press PR tonight! 8 reps @ 145 (only managed 6 before).

Was pretty strong the whole workout...I see veins coming along. (I'm not a very vascular person, so its exciting for me )
Then my IPod died....which made doing cardio impossible.

Thx ladies!
Felt great! The look on the dude's face on the bench next to me was priceless...cuz he was benching the same weight.

Weight is still up, but I have 3 more cardio sessions to go....like it will help. If it is indeed PMS water weight, then I am screwed for the next week anyways.

I ate 14oz of shrimp yesterday...that does not help in the sodium department, it does however help in the yumminess department!
