Default What Do You Drink?

I was relaxing with my family for the night when my text message alert went off. I checked my phone and saw that my cousin had asked me "what do you drink?"
This question was followed by his list of preferred beverages......G2, Propel, Smart Balance fruit juice, etc. He likes to come to me for training advice, and this time his question made me realize something about myself.

My drink list only consists of three items!

Item 1: Water. Obviously this is essential, and when I'm training clients, you will almost always see a bottle of water in my hand or nearby. In fact, I often drink more during a training session than the client who is doing all the work! My drink of choice when eating out is water with lemon.

Item 2: Water with Whey Protein. I know, water again..... Well, water is the base ingredient for most beverages, healthy or not. I prefer the healthy choices. I will almost always have a whey shake for breakfast with my bowl of oats and cinnamon. I will use my whey shakes for convenient meals while in between training appointments as well. Nothing is faster or simpler. The Miller household goes through plenty of whey protein, as Jess is a big fan as well.

Item 3: Milk. I don't drink a large amount of milk. If I had to estimate, I drink under a half of a gallon per week. Certain meals just taste better when followed with a glass of milk. If I'm trying to sneak in a few extra calories, I will use milk with my whey shakes, but this isn't the usual drill. Milk is the most uncommon of my three drink items.

My main realization from my cousin's message is that my drink selection is very limited, and I feel that this is something that more and more people should strive for.

Sweetened drinks can easily drive your daily calorie total out of control. Even zero calorie drinks will trick your system into craving other sweets, as the more sweet foods you eat, the more you crave. Just because a drink might have zero calories, it doesn't mean there aren't other adverse effects associated with drinking it.

There are many pitfalls to watch out for when straying away from basic, natural beverages. If you are not well versed in nutritional knowledge, than I recommend leaving them out of the equation. A large glass of fruit juice will contain more calories than a can of regular soda. Sure, it has vitamins and minerals, but if weight loss is your concern, there are better ways to get those which don't come with hundreds of carb calories.

If you must have something other than water, give green tea a taste. There are caffeinated and decaffeinated versions to suit your liking, and green tea boasts some great health benefits as well.

In closing, keep your drink list short and simple. Its much tougher to over eat on solid foods than it is by drinking your calories. Stick to the basics, your bodyfat percentage will thank you, and so will the mirror!

Now the question is.....what do YOU drink?

When I'm "on" with my diet:
- Water
- Crystal Light (usually those packets that you add to water)
- Xtend
- Protein Shakes

When I'm "off" - then add a lot of this:
- Diet Dr. Pepper
- Coke Zero
- Beer & Margaritas on occasion

I don't drink coffee because I don't like it. I don't like iced tea either. I do like milk a lot, but it's too easy for me to drink a ton of it which gets expensive, so I just save it for the kids' cereal.

Oh, I also have green tea in frequent rotation. Sometimes diet root beer. If I'm cheating then I'll often have a regular root beer.

I'll play, tho I'm far from perfect:
2 mugs coffee to start, small glass grapejuice or O.J.
Water, whey/carbo shakes on training days, whey only when off
One small Wendy's shake after training (with out $5 dollar menu orders)
Milk with certain foods or when hot - about a quart a day of 1-2%
Our addiction: the wife makes us 'spritzer' with 2/3 water, 1/4 juice, and 1/4 clear diet soda, sometimes crystal lite packets instead.
I don't really like water much.

I gotta add in some Patron tequila for tomorrow night. I'm at least gonna keep it simple and just drink it straight

We are going to a hat party, any ideas for a cool hat?

You can go classic and make a double-beer (tequila) hat.

Well, I was actually thinking more stylish to be honest. Jess is going to be looking good and I need to keep up!

I need something functional in a crowded setting. Plus, I would be in the hospital if I made a beer hat and filled it with tequila, lol.

Well you don't have to drink it all

Balloon hat? Chef hat? Rasta hat? Hot dog hat? Arrow-through-the-head hat? Goofy hat? Mickey ears?

I would say 80% of my intake is water, and the other is one of coffee, tea or Rockstar sugar free. Pop has been cheap, and so I have been indulging in Coke Zero but only about once a week.

Probably too late. But a "Cat in the Hat" hat would be cool...

That was in our gift game, and the host of the party managed to get it in the end......

So there will definitely be one there.

You can get a big black stovepipe hat and don a beard. Then you're not only a party guy but also Abe Lincoln...or Evil Cat in the Hat.

I have one of those black cat hats with muffs . . .

Anyway, I drink water, tea, coffee, moo-juice, a rare Dr. Pepper. Scotch, speaking of, I plan to have one tonight.

Happy New Year to all at Clutch Fitness.

Distilled water ftw. I'll mix whey into water on lifting days. Milk has to much fat and fruit juices are usually filled with preservatives and are mostly not comprised of fruit. Better to just take fresh fruit and blend it (if you can afford it go for the organic stuff).

Water, preworkout drinks, and protein on a daily basis.
Sometimes I'll add some of those drink packets to a bottle of water.
Tea, coffee (very infrequently)
Alcohol (more frequently than I'd like to admit)
Diet soda, down to maybe once a month.

My drinks are water, beer, green tea [ I have at least 2 cups of hot green tea a day] occasionally milk, recently have been trying various wines out, and beer. Also, beer. I have never been a soda drinker, even as a kid. I love ice tea. And beer.

Water
Various Herbal teas
White Tea, Green Tea, Yerba Mate occasionally.
Homebrew.

On a side note, I overheard this guy in the gym (extremely overweight guy) telling his buddy how he had 16 Rum and Cokes the night before. I almost fell over. I felt like saying "dude you're obviously in here to get in shape....16 Rum and Cokes c'mon"

I've just been introduced to Redline. WOOF! It has a drawback, being the next thing to SPEED...you tend to talk a lot between sets and lose your heat. I tried a half can next time and got a fine session in - no need for a full can, and that's from someone used to thermogenics.

What version of Redline is it? A friend of mine years ago was swearing by it and gave me one, though I can't remember what version/line it was. I had one and felt a little bit of a jolt but nothing major, but I'm not too affected by stims. I'm curious if they've come out with something new, though.

Non Alcoholic - Water, Milk, occasionally juice tea or coffee
Beer - Rickards Red, Kokanee, Kokanee Gold, Keiths Red, Moosehead, Granville Island Winter Ale. - The canadian amber ales are generally what I drink other than the occasional red wine.
I drink usually once a week, and have no more than 15 drinks in a month (excluding Christmas time where baileys is the staple of my diet).

I drank an entire Redline and almost exploded while tubing at the lake. True story.

Now I've used it a couple times, I notice my fatigue syndrome is amplified. This stuff has a bad crash after it. I had to take a nap after we ate; just couldn't function. So here's a heads up on it.

Water, Green Tea, Monster Absolutes, an occasional diet rootbeer/dr.pepper.

Now im a bartender so when working I drink too much, rumplemintz, jager, rootbeer squares, x-rated with XX.

On date night, bud light or XX. If I go to Bj's Brewhouse i'll treat my self to a belgium beer, or their jeremiah red.

Sometimes I wonder why I have this belly, not that Im huge or anything being 175.

Water lots and lots of water, green or white loose leaf tea, protein (with veggie powder sometimes) and that's really about it! I use to thrive on Pepsi but I gave it up a few months ago.

I drink mainly only water (often fizzy water so it has more of a kick!), and then a lot of juice and smoothies. I love this, and there are endless combinations and recipes to try out.

Apart from that, it is mainly tea. As deadliftsmith says above, Green Tea is veeery healthy, and also damn tasty once you are used to it (I recomend Japanese Dynamite Green Tea). White Tea is even better for you apparently, but not so tasty.

I don't drink milk - I find it too thick and cloggy, too stodgy and muccasy. I used to have asthma you see. I also find milk can give me bad dreams - or just too many dreams! I have recently bought some new foam mattress toppers from Zen Bedrooms, which has certainly helped me sleep deep thoughout the night. Even if I drink milk. Occasionally I will drink Goats milk or Soya. But cows milk gives me weird dreams as well.
